THE MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY :
  • For the faith formation of Catholics in Kolli Hills.
  • To provide supplementary education to local children.

ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :
  • The General Chapter of 1997 came out with a Special decision, Tamil Nadu Province will have mobile communities where sisters live amidst people and engage in direct Apostolate. The province proceeded to have this suggestion practically lived in three villages namely Kolli Hills, Othaiyal, and Pattanamkurichy.
  • In preparation of this, along with Sr. Tharsil Mary and Sr. Adaikala, nine of our newly professed sisters of 1997 batch stayed for a month to visit the families at Kolli Hills. In 1998 the mission team of our province visited Kolli Hills several time in view of implanting a mobile community.
  • With the consent of Most.Rt.Rev.S.Sinagaroyan, the Bishop of Salem our community was installed at Soalakadu on 16th Aug 1998. Sr.John Patrick and Sr. Mary Jeya were placed for the mission at Kolli Hills in a rented house.
  • The House was blessed on 19th August 1998 by Rev.Fr.Francis, the Parish Priest of Kosavampatti. This house remained as the sub house of SMMI Convent, Salem till 2001.
  • On 1st Sep 2000 sisters moved to the newly built convent and began medical and socio-pastoral activities. Sisters were going to the local government school to teach the weak students and also conducted tuition for the children in the evening. Simultaneously small saving was started for the women in the village.
  • In the year 2001 this community was bifurcated from SMMI Convent, Salem, and instituted as independent community on June 6th. Sr.Rita Thomas was appointed as the first superior of this house.
  • On 17.03.2004 Vocational Training Centre was constructed by Sr.Francina, Director of DTMC, Salem for the tribal women at Kolli Hills.
