Genesis of 20 Convents in Salem Province

AMALA CONVENT VIMALAPURI - (1974)
MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY :
  • To provide good education to the poor children of the locality.
  • To foster moral values and bring out the children as good citizen.
  • To involve in the pastoral works of the parish.
ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :
  • Vimalapuri is situated in Thadagam village at about five kilometers from Dharmapuri.
  • With the help of Fr.T.C. Joseph the Parish Priest of kadagathur on 23.8.1965 Mother Therese Luc Superior of Our Lady’s Convent Salem, bought a plot of land at Thadagam.
  • The foundation stone for the School was laid in Vimalapuri on 18th Aug 1969 by Mr.P. Sankaran, IAS who was the district collector of Dharmapuri.
  • The convent, the school building and a small dispensary were blessed and inaugurated by on 04.12.1971.
  • The Amala Aided Primary School was started with 78 children and 3 teachers, which got recognition from the Government on 02.08.1971.Gradually the strength of the children increased. The construction of the convent was completed in 1974 and it was blessed and opened by Mgr.Michael Bosco Duraisamy, Bishop of Salem on 15.06.1975.
  • The Amala English School which was functioning in the same campus was shifted back to Dharmapuri in 1976.
  • The Primary School at Vimalapuri was upgraded and it has been recognized as a middle school by the Government on 31.08.1998. Due to dwindling of patients to the dispensary was closed on 31.05.1998.
  • On 04.12.1999 a new building for the High School was blessed and opened. On 04.08.2018 the High School was up gradated into Higher Secondary School on 04.08.2008.
