ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :
  • The Yercaud mission began this way. Mother Marie Gertrude, our Foundress stayed in a rented bungalow called ‘SUNNY SIDE’ from June 1901 to August 1902 during the time of her ill health.
  • In the year 1929 our sisters of Kumbakonam mission purchased a small estate in Yercaud. Sr.Francoise was the first Animator in the year 1931.
  • Sr.Jeane de Gethsemani was in Yercaud in this house till her death in 1943. Mother Emma, the Superior of Salem bought the “Manor Villa” and named it as “Domus Mariae”. The first convent bearing the name St.Raphael’s was closed and all the sisters shifted to Domus Mariae convent.
  • In the year 1965 this community became an independent mission with Sr.Simone as the first superior. The Providence Hospital was well established and registered under the Government in the year 1968.
