Genesis of 20 Convents in Salem Province
IRUDAYA ILLAM PULIAMPATTI - (1975)
THE MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY :
- To involve in the welfare programme like Mother and Child Health care to the poor women and the children.
- To engage in the Parish activities.
- To provide medical help to the pilgrims as well as to the surrounding villages.
- Guidance and Counseling to the mentally ill patients.
ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :
- Irudaya Illam Convent at Puliampatti in the Diocese of Palayamkottai was founded in 1975.
- From its inception sisters were fully immersed in the socio-pastoral activities.
- A small dispensary was built. A well-equipped laboratory has been added to the Dispensary and now functioning as a recognized health centre.
- Shrine of St.Antony at Puliampatti is well known for its miraculous healing of both the possessed and mentally ill. The sisters and the diocesan representatives realized the need to have a counseling centre in this mission. The centre was opened in the year 2013 by the diocese of Palayamkottai.
