Genesis of 20 Convents in Salem Province
SMMI CONVENT AROCKIAPURAM - (2015)
MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY :
- Participation in the parish work.
- Fostering Anbiyams ( B.C.C) in the parish.
- Visit to the families.
- Medical care to the needy and the poor.
ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :
- The mission at Nagarcoil was initiated for the purpose of recruiting vocation to our province. With the permission of Most.Rt.Rev.Peter Remigius, Bishop of Kottar we started our mission on 3.5.2013.
- Three of our sisters namely Sr.Mary Alphonsa, Sr.Maria Seraphine and Sr.Arul Jenifer were chosen as pioneers to start the service of medical, educational and spiritual ministry for the students of Loyola Engineering College, Thovalai in Nagarcoil.
- Sr.Alphonse was appointed as the first superior of the community. The contract was made with the management for three years. The management hoisted the sisters inside the college campus with all facilities. One sister was asked to extend medical service to the college students and two sisters involved in the teaching ministry. They rendered their service at various levels in that Institution from 2012-2015.
- Meanwhile sisters located a place called Arockiapuram 5 kilo meter distance from Kanniyakumari and studied the possibility of initiating our mission. Our sisters were given a place to reside inside the Parish School campus. On 26.9.2015 the renovated house was blessed and opened by Most.Rev.Peter Remigius the Bishop of Kottar. The Sisters worked in the Parish School and now fully involved in Socio-medical and pastoral ministries.
