MARY IMMACULATE CONVENT THAVITTUPALAYAM - (1976)

THE MISSION OF THE COMMUNITY :

ORIGIN OF THE COMMUNITY :

Thavittupalam is situated in the diocese of Ooty in Anthiyur Block.
The Mary Immaculate Convent at Thavittupalayam was inaugurated on 25.07.1976 with four sisters. Sr. Juliet was the first animator of this community. It remained as the branch house of Ooty.
They started the Nursery school with its name as Nirmala Primary School for the poor villagers of Anthiyur in 1969. Later they had to close this school and opened Mary Immaculate day Crèche on 9th Nov 1984 at Thavittupalayam for the children of the poor working women. From this time onwards the school existed with LKG and UKG. In 1979 this house was separated from Ooty and it became an independent community. Sr.Jemma was appointed as the first superior of Thavittupalayam.
In 2017 Sr.Flora Valan, the Provincial of Salem took an initiative to upgrade LKG School into Primary School.On 12 Nov 2017 Sr.Flora Valan, the Provincial along with Sr.Bridget Alex Mary met the Bishop of Ooty and obtained permission to upgrade the Mary Immaculate LKG & UKG into Mary Immaculate Nursery and Primary School with the approval of the Government.
On 16.11.2018 the new school building was blessed and inaugurated by Most.Rt.Rev.Amal Raj, Bishop of Ooty and Sr.Flora Valan, the Provincial of Salem. The school continues to progress with good number of students.
