Medical Ministry in Missions
Healing is a constitutive element of Jesus ministry. He called his followers to do the same. Jesus instructed his disciples to go into towns and cure the sick who are there. Religion, caste or creed or payment is not a consideration; instead, mercy and healing is extended to everyone. We the SMMI are instruments to uplift the lower strata of the society mainly the women and the children; to empower and give them the holistic health care: Preventive, Promotive and Curative.
The very first missionaries took care of the people with leprosy in and around Salem. As days went on leprosy centre was established as a separate unit of the province to take care of leprosy patients. St.Mary’s Leprosy Centre was erected as a separate block. Its vision and mission is: ‘Working towards Leprosy Free India.
Areas covered in the earlier days Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Erode in collaboration with the Government. With the help of the individual benefactors nutritional supplies are given to the HIV,AIDS and Tuberculosis patients. The affected children are given education facilities.

- We reach out to the underserved areas of our locality like interior villages and tribal communities by way of conducting medical camps
- Striving towards promoting holistic health
- We strictly follow principles and moral ethics of medical so as to bear witness to a life of honesty and integrity
- We focus to give special care to the women and the poor in all our dispensaries and hospitals
- We also extend our service to conduct the meetings of AA Groups (Alcoholic Anonymous) in our hospitals and convent premises.
- We give counseling to the affected families (Mother and Children) of Substance Abusers (Drug addicts& Alcoholics) to have right approach.
- Thus we see the SMMI provide quality holistic health care in all our institutions for all at an affordable cost.
